Advantages and Disadvantages of Smart TV Technology
A few years ago, you couldn’t really talk about “the future of television” without referring to the term “smart TV.” The term itself was a misnomer, since at the time there really weren’t any smart phones (not to mention other media player like consoles). However, the term came about as someone (a television executive) started to talk about the potential uses for smart TV’s. The question was, what exactly is a smart TV?
In a nutshell, a smart tv is one which can be remotely connected to the internet, likely, your own home wi-fi. Unlike the regular TVs of the past, the new televisions of today will most likely broadcast video content via a plug-in, a satellite receiver, or even an amazon fire box. Instead of being restricted to certain viewing areas and watching specific channels, you’ll be able to log on to your television and view videos on demand from any location you choose. The major advantage of this is the massive amount of control you’ll have over what you watch. This is in contrast to the normal television where the room in which you sit is your viewing area and you’re limited to whatever’s available in that room.
So how does a smart tv differ from traditional television? Well, the first difference is the fact that smart TVs have built-in digital channels. These are high definition channels that deliver crystal clear picture resolution and will include movies, sporting events, live broadcasts, music concerts, and everything else you could possibly want. There is even some AT&T smart tv programming which covers a large portion of the upcoming slate of programming for this year.
With a normal tv, the quality of the picture is usually only good if the connection speed is fast enough to support it. However, with smart tv’s you will be able to take advantage of both streaming services and regular television channels without the hassle of extra connections. These include things like wi-fi, mobile data, 3g connection and other internet protocols. This means that the picture quality will be much better than that provided by regular television. Plus, since the quality of streaming services is so good, there’s no need to settle for low quality TV signals.
Another major advantage of smart tvs is that they also provide access to popular apps. The apps you get are very similar to those of a regular pc or laptop, with the exception of the fact that they’re not actually part of the television set itself. For example, most of the standard video channels come preinstalled on most smart tvs, as well as access to popular apps like Wikipedia, Amazon, Hulu, and others. The ability to access these apps is one of the biggest differences between normal tv and smart tv sets, and allows you to do things like watch YouTube videos, play games, listen to music, check sports scores, etc.
Finally, most smart tvs have built in accessibility to popular social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. This means that you can connect to your friends and family across the world. In addition, you’ll be able to use the built in apps for accessing news, weather, TV shows and movies. In many cases, the apps provided by the manufacturer are far superior to what you would get with the free downloads, and they are very useful.
There are a couple of disadvantages to smart tvs, however. The main issue with them is the fact that many people do not have access to high speed internet, especially in developed countries. This means that watching streaming video on your smart tvs can sometimes be a bit slow. Also, most wi-fi capable smart tvs require a constant wi-fi connection in order to work properly.
One final advantage of this technology is the added visual benefits it provides. Many televisions now feature LCD or LED backlighting which provides brighter images for viewing. Also, many smart tv’s allow one to adjust the brightness of the screen from a remote control, making for a more ergonomic experience. This allows one to adjust the size of the television, as well as position it at different angles, making for a more comfortable viewing experience.
